Post Autumn Statement Poll for Sunday Telegraph
The latest Sunday Telegraph/ICM poll included voting intentions that reveal that the Conservatives have overtaken Labour in the aftermath of the Chancellor George Osborne’s Autumn Statement. The Conservatives lead by 2-points despite the Chancellor having little to say other than bad news on the current state of the British economy. The state of the parties is a mirror image of last week, when Labour lead the Conservatives by 2-points.
One other question was included on the poll. In the Autumn Statement, George Osborne announced that the pension entitlement age was to be raised to 67 in 2026 – ten years earlier than previously planned. This was to take account of rising life expectancy and the cost burden of government spending on pensions. The public are largely opposed to this development, with 50 per cent saying they are opposed to the early raising of the state retirement age.
