Among the studies we have undertaken are the annual Winter Trackers exploring attitudes toward electoral registration and voting in general, and post-election opinion surveys among both voters and non-voters. Besides giving a snapshot of current electoral registration and post-poll opinion and behaviours, the research enables comparisons to be made with previous years and identify any differences within specific sections of the population.
Prior to 2016 the research was conducted by telephone. As part of the 2016 contract, ICM was required to undertake an online parallel run in conjunction with the main telephone research. The purpose of the experiments was to highlight any differences in the results between the two methods and therefore determine whether the Commission moved all of its research to an online platform in future years (which it subsequently did in 2017).
